Guitar Sessions 56: Play the dropped-D waltz “Write Again”
This episode of Guitar Sessions teaches a song of mine called “Write Again.” I get a lot of comments and questions about this song, released as a guitar/clarinet duet on the Live and Listening album, and it’s a special one to me as well.
The song originated in this poem/photo by my late friend Jack Bocchino, about missing the days of writing letters.
The feeling that Jack expressed here really resonated with me, and for an event in his honor, I set these words to music and expanded them with more verses. (For the full, detailed back story of this song and about Jack, a legendary supporter of the Syracuse music scene, see this post.
The resulting song is a simple waltz played in dropped-D tuning. The arrangement includes some useful dropped-D shapes and patterns for accompanying waltzes, and also some melodic interludes with touches of hybrid picking. Download the chart and tab below.
