Guitar Sessions 32: How to use slash chords

Slash chords are an essential part of the guitar toolkit. In this episode of Guitar Sessions, learn what slash chords are and how you can use them to sweeten the sound of chord progressions and bass lines.

Slash chords are simply chord voicings with a note other than the root in the bass—a few examples are C/G, F/C, G/B, and A/C#. In the episode I run through some simple examples of substituting slash chords in a short chord sequence, and then show how these chords work in the progression from Jerry Jeff Walker’s classic “Mr. Bojangles,” creating a distinctive bass line that defines the song.

On Patreon you can download an extensive library of slash chord shapes as well as chord charts for “Mr. Bojangles” and the other examples in the lesson.
