Next generation bluegrass

Back in 2017, I had the opportunity to put together an Acoustic Guitar cover story that spotlighted some of the younger players galvanizing the bluegrass scene: Molly Tuttle, Billy Strings, Courtney Hartman (then with Della Mae, now a solo artist), Grant Gordy (formerly with David Grisman), Dave Bruzza of Greensky Bluegrass, and Dave Wilson of Chatham County Line.

Below, check out the informal video lessons I made with Tuttle and Hartman, and read the full story (published in the April 2017 issue) at Acoustic Guitar.

For the same issue, Tuttle—who has become a fast-rising star of the bluegrass/country scene—shared a lesson on the basics of cross-picking, an essential technique in bluegrass and applicable in any other style as well. Here is her video and a link to the complete lesson.
